The Metropolitan Escorting Officers Lodge

Hornsey Charity

2018

As part of our fundraising W Bros Ivor Macklin and Anthony Codd, the Worshipful Master and Director of Ceremonies of Hornsey Lodge completed the Camino Ingles, 118 kilometre section of the Camino the ancient route of pilgrims to the holy site at Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. W.Bros Macklin and Codd had originally intended to undertake the walk during the balmy days of late summer in September but due to injury, had to postpone the trek and instead had to walk during the cold wind and rain of January.

W.Bro Macklin described the generosity of the local people ‘en route’ which included donations of cakes and the opening up of a ‘closed for the season’ hotel by the owner saying, “help yourself and put the key in the post box when you leave.” On other nights, accommodation was found in a mixture of hostels and hotels, never paying more than twenty euros each and often less and eating the Menu del Dia (three courses with wine for ten euros).

Both Ivor and Anthony described the walk as tough. Ivor completed the last thirty kilometres with blisters on his feet and describes undertaking the walk for charity as a challenge but on arrival at Santiago it had become profoundly spiritual.

W. Bros Ivor Macklin and Anthony Codd raised the magnificent sum of £8,332 for the Metropolitan Grand Master’s Fire Brigade Ladders Appeal.

2019

We are delighted that this September Hornsey Lodge was recognised by the Metropolitan Grand Master’s London Freemasons’ Charity with an Outstanding Achievement Award for charitable monies donated.

Furthermore also in September our Secretary, W. Bro Paul Brown walked the 2019 Thames Bridges 25 kilometre Trek  to raise money for Lifelites on behalf of the Lodge.

Lifelites is a charity which gives life-limited and disabled children in hospices opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have, through the magic of assistive and creative technology. All monies being donated in support of this challenge including from the sponsors of Paul’s walk will go directly to Lifelites when at our November Lodge meeting the Worshipful Master will present a cheque on behalf of Hornsey Lodge to W. Bro Rick Wakeman who is the Patron of Lifelites.
